Photos: Libya Liberation Day

A selection of photos taken at the official ceremony on the 23 of October 2011 to mark Libya’s liberation after 8 months of bloody conflict. The event took place in the eastern city of Benghazi, the birthplace of the country’s revolution to overthrow longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi. Libya’s interim head Mustafa Abdul Jalil addressed a jubilant crowd across the road from the Katiba, the city’s notorious army barracks, where many people lost their lives at the start of the uprising in February.
