Kenya’s Tana Delta Massacre

September 17, 2012

Kilelengwani village in Kenya’s Tana Delta, the site of a massacre on the 10th of Sept 2012, which left 38 people dead. The village was completely destroyed. Only the mosque was left standing.

The clashes in the Tana Delta have resulted in over 100 deaths and displaced more than 12,000 people. Many fear it could be the start of election related violence ahead of polling in March.
I visited the Tana Delta with my colleagues, Gabriel Gatehouse and Phil Davies. You can listen to Gabriel’s radio package
here, view the TV package shot by Phil Davies here and read the online piece here. The Kenya Red Cross has launched an emergency appeal to help the victims of the massacre. You can donate to the appeal here.
